Program Notes

"My Four Text Settlngs for A Cappella Mixed Chorus was composed for John Oliver. During the Fromm Festival, August 1979, John heard the Tanglewood premiere of my Paintings IV conducted by Gunther Schuller…. After the performance John asked me if I had ever written music for chorus. I told him that I had two choral works to my credit but that I would be most honored and delighted to compose a new score for his chorale. He accepted, and I began the score almost immediately."

—Wllliam Thomas McKinley, from 4 Apr 1981 program.
